## How to Calculate Cake Pan Volume

### Formulas

**Round Pan Volume = pi x (diameter/2)^2 x depth**

**Rectangular Pan Volume = length x width x depth**

Fill cake pans 1/2 to 2/3 full to allow room for the batter to rise.

### Volume Conversion

1 cubic inch = 0.0693 cups (approximately 1/14.4 cups)

  1. Area: pi x (9/2)^2 = 63.6 sq in.
  2. Volume: 63.6 x 2 = 127.2 cu in.
  3. Volume in cups: 127.2 / 14.4375 = 8.8 cups.
  4. Recommended batter (2/3 full): 8.8 x 0.667 = 5.9 cups.
