Inductor Impedance Calculator Formula
Understand the math behind the inductor impedance calculator. Each variable explained with a worked example.
Formulas Used
Inductive Reactance (XL)
reactance = 2 * pi * frequency_hz * ind_hVariables
| Variable | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
inductance_mh | Inductance(mH) | 10 |
frequency_hz | Frequency(Hz) | 1000 |
ind_h | Derived value= inductance_mh / 1000 | calculated |
How It Works
Inductive Reactance
XL = 2 x pi x f x L
Reactance increases with frequency: inductors pass DC and block high frequencies (opposite of capacitors).
Worked Example
10 mH inductor at 1 kHz.
inductance_mh = 10frequency_hz = 1000
- 01L = 10 mH = 0.01 H
- 02XL = 2 x pi x 1000 x 0.01 = 62.83 ohms
