Formulas Used

Total Batter Needed

total_batter = round(total_batter_g)

Flour

flour = round(flour_g)

Sugar

sugar = round(total_batter_g * 0.2)

Butter or Oil

butter_or_oil = round(total_batter_g * 0.15)

Batter Volume

batter_cups = round(total_batter_g / 240 * 10) / 10

How It Works

How Muffin Batch Amounts Are Calculated

Batter per Muffin

  • Mini muffin: About 30 g (1 tablespoon) of batter per cup.
  • Standard muffin: About 75 g (3 tablespoons) of batter per cup, filling 2/3 full.
  • Jumbo muffin: About 150 g (6 tablespoons) of batter per cup.
  • Typical Batter Ratios

    A standard muffin batter is approximately:

  • 35% flour
  • 20% sugar
  • 15% fat (butter or oil)
  • 30% liquid + eggs
  • Worked Example

    Calculate batter for 12 standard muffins.

    num_muffins = 12muffin_size = 75
    1. 01Total batter = 12 x 75 = 900 g.
    2. 02Flour = 900 x 0.35 = 315 g.
    3. 03Sugar = 900 x 0.20 = 180 g.
    4. 04Butter/oil = 900 x 0.15 = 135 g.
    5. 05Batter volume = 900 / 240 = 3.8 cups.
