Mass from Molarity Calculator Formula
Understand the math behind the mass from molarity calculator. Each variable explained with a worked example.
Formulas Used
Mass of Solute Needed
mass_needed = molarity * volume_liters * molar_massMoles Needed
moles_out = molarity * volume_litersVariables
| Variable | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
molarity | Desired Molarity(M) | 0.5 |
volume_liters | Desired Volume(L) | 0.5 |
molar_mass | Molar Mass of Solute(g/mol) | 58.44 |
How It Works
How to Calculate Mass from Molarity
Formula
mass = M × V × Mw
First find moles (M × V), then convert to grams by multiplying by molar mass.
Worked Example
How many grams of NaCl (58.44 g/mol) for 500 mL of 0.5 M solution?
molarity = 0.5volume_liters = 0.5molar_mass = 58.44
- 01Moles = 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.25 mol
- 02Mass = 0.25 × 58.44 = 14.61 g
